just a couple of months until the election.

just a couple of months until the election.
and i know this might sound dull, but what if the discussion in the run-up to the election
was about issues and not about slander?
for example, let's dispel a few myths:
barack obama is not a muslim(not that there's anything wrong with islam, but obama is a christian).
barack obama is not a socialist(not that there's anything wrong with being a socialist, but obama is a capitalist).
barack obama is not inexperienced(as a candidate he's had more time in d.c than did: abraham lincoln, john f. kennedy, bill clinton,
ronald reagan, etc).
there are differences between the candidates, and people should vote based
on which candidate they believe has the best ideas for how the country should be run.
it would be a tragedy for the u.s and the world if the election were decided based on deceit(like
saying that obama is a muslim), name calling(yes, obama's middle name is 'hussein', i'm not sure
how that's a valid election year issue), or racism(yes, obama's father was black, again, not exactly
germaine criteria for choosing a candidate).

if you're an american who believes that the last 8 years of gw bush and republican rule have been good for
the country, then you should probably vote for john mccain, as john mccain is a life-long republican and
he's voted with gw bush and the republicans 90% of the time in the last 8 years.

if you're an american who believes that the last 8 years of gw bush and republican
rule have been bad for the country, then you should probably vote for barack obama, as barack obama
is a life-long democrat and he's voted with the democrats 96% of the time while he's been in the senate.

it's not rocket science, really. not to state the obvious, but you pick the candidate with whom you agree and who you
think will do the best job leading the country.

If I may interrupt

and remind some here that Bob Barr signed the defense of marriage act and called for Clinton's resignation. I don't know if one could label him a libratarian in this case. As for Nader, I was thinking about voting for him,but has he really gotten anything passed other than safety standards? I just don't think he'd be able to compromise on anything.

And you know darling that I

And you know darling that I feel Obama is the ideal candidate and he has my vote forsure. You are so right and what a simplistic and non-headache way to read such a serious blog. You really know how to write political journals and make them make sense, without putting anyone to sleep and I'm truthful when I tell you, many times politics put me to sleep, however, ever since I began reading your journals back in the day, I have had a greater understanding and appreciation for what I once wanted to neglect. You are my hero!

The candidates

First of all, Sacred Dignity, you're an idiot. Calling the host of the forum you are posting on a "psuedo intellectual" while you rant away is the epitome of hubris. I suppose you consider yourself a true dyed in the wool "intellectual" and everyone who disagrees with you is "psuedo?" You sir, are a douche. Ralph Nader is an egoist who spoiled the election for Al Gore by making it so close that W. stole the election with the partisan Supreme Court order to stop counting votes (in a democracy!). And we all know how that story ends... Bob Barr is a hypocrite who went after Clinton's blowjob full-force while secretly having an affair of his own (thank you, Larry Flynt). By the way, you lose every argument immediately the instant you bring up the extreme of Hitler, and you can backpeddle all you want but once you throw that ridiculously out-there analogy you can't pussy out like you did and back away from this facile statement. Hey Sacred Chicken Little, Obama is no Hitler and McCain is no Stalin. Save the unwarranted hyperbole for the O'Reilly no-spin zone, asshole. However, I do agree that when less than one percent of the nation controls 75% of it's wealth, capitalism has begun to eat it's own trickle down feces. The U.S. has become like Old Rome, graft and greed have never been taken to such an extreme as the current war profiteers W. and Cheney running the show. The U.S. treasury was corporate raided by Haliburton. And the GOP knows that every election they can trot out their "Greatist Hits" compilation of Gay Marriage and abortion, they can swift-boat Obama with mistruths about his religion, background and beliefs and you know what? It works every time. The best thing the GOP has ever had going for it is that it's competition is the Democrats who implode with scandal just as surely as they rise with hope. Clinton, Spitzer and now, Edwards just can't seem to keep their dicks in their pants which is a shame because all three were otherwise visionary leaders. It's nice to see Moby, doing what he can to dispell some of the out and out lies and until reading umm...sacred dignity (cough cough) I would've thought that you, Moby, were sort of preaching to the choir as I assume all your fans are liberal but I guess I was wrong. As for myself, I have given up on the U.S. In it's current state it's not worth saving anymore. Every election you see the country cleary divided between the east coast and west coast vs. the fly-over states. Oil companies are allowed to make history making profits with no windfall taxes while we borrow ourselves into oblivion with communist China to pay for an unnecessary war and still our children have no free health care. We are NOT one country and I am through waiting for reason with gay hating, women hating Bible thumping redneck capitalist red state jerks. I am moving to Spain, where their politics and philosophy of life are much more in line with my own personal liberal beliefs.

p.s. Do you think "psuedo" intellectuals like Sacred Dignity can muster the intelligence hutzpah needed to know how not to double post? Or is his head too far up his own ass?

quite naturally, moby is the victim in all this. he is given a free pass to characterize the gop as "dumb" while claiming a mononoply on intelligence for liberals everywhere. great argument.

Ranting away on this public forum has nothing to do with "hubris" but everything to do with discourse and dissent. If I have to explain this to you, perhaps you should stick to things you're better equipped at doing--making music which the world will never care about or making shameless, sordid films.

I may be a douche to you but I am not a sycophant or a phoney.

It's pretty clear that you enjoy taking one perceived negative aspect of a person or platform and making that the sole object of your attack. You're pretty courageous in axing down one straw man after another!

In any debate, one should consider the position or belief of the opposition as they understand it and offer a valid criticism and rebuttal from there.

Berating a person of virtue and character like Nader is pretty baseless and ignorant given the profound contributions he has made to our standard of living.

Barr's contention against Clinton was the crime of perjury.

Says who?! Who decides on the ability or capacity to invoke former fascists and totalitarian socialists in a public forum? You?

Clearly, you've completely and recklessly missed the point of my position.

Using Ad Hominem tactics in lieu of intellectual investigation and questioning is the product of a lazy or uninformed mind.

Exactly the point I was making. Neither Obama or McCain truly represent the average American. I wrote in an earlier post that both Candidates are mere Manchurian Puppets who act in concert with darker, nefarious elites who control everything from Investment Banks to the Media. They promote concepts such as "globalization" to consolidate their wealth and power. They "invent" global events to provoke a crisis just to instill fear in people.

Take a closer look into the activities of the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Aspen Institute and the Bilderberg Group.

Creating class conflicts over ideologies, race and politics is exactly the form of tacts in disinformation the power-mongers intended each time a less than informed voter uses terms like "tax-raising socialists" or "bible-thumping fascists".

It's a diversion from reality. The reality is life sucks in the US because (using Occam's Razor here), the rich keeps getting richer and poor...even more destitute and desperate.

If you sift through everything Moby has ever written about the GOP, I would accuse him of the same intellectual crime of ad hominem generalizations. He's not promoting truth nor does he have exclusive access to it. He's promoting an agenda that serves his beliefs without taking historical context and political reality into consideration. In other words, he's doing what most liberals openly abhor...he's pulling a Bill O'Reilly.

What you are espousing isn't liberalism but a form of socialism where our country will turn into a welfare state run by a vanguard of elites. If free healthcare is what you're after, perhaps the liberals should create a viable and workable solution that would not bankrupt our country or force the middle-class to burden the responsibilities.

And do you possess any metrics or reliable data which supports the popular belief that free healthcare is more efficient and competent that the free market variety of competition we have now? If so, can you explain the long-waiting lists and lines for something as mundane as a routine check-up in Canada and why more resourceful Canadians venturing south of the border for medical needs?

You can have the last word but I'm willing to wager a Vegan BLT at Teany's that your rebuttal will come in the form of generalizations, out-of-context objections, ad hominem caricatures and infantile rejoinders of "I can't save this country so I'm leaving it" (and you accuse me of "hubris"?).

The Best Candidates...

...are barely mentioned in the mainstream press (apparatus for elitist power-mongers who want to keep you away from the truth about how things are really done in the world).

Voting for a Candidate based on the incompetence and shortcomings of the alternative or the incumbent is not exactly what I consider the democratic process.

Ex: "Hitler sucks so I'm casting my Vote for Stalin!"

I'm not equivocating or drawing anologies, just paraphrasing what the image-makers are spewing.

If we subtract the obscene amount of money Obama and McCain have at their disposal and factor in things like merit, social contributions, policy ideas, level of transparency, voting record and campaign donors (shadiest part of the business), Obama and McCain would not even be mentioned by any casual observer of average intelligence.

Ralph Nader has done more for the average person in America than Obama and McCain combined. Each time you get into your car or order food at a restaraunt, you should know that safety standards were proposed by Nader.

Bob Barr, the Libertarian, has been vocally critically of Democrats and Republicans on the very basic, most fundamental and consitutional issue of personal freedom. The Dems and GOP have both been guilty of policies that encroach on our personal liberties under the guise of security and reform.

Tip O'Neal once stated that "all politics are local". That stated, real power should be in the hands of the State--the people, not the Washington bureacrats and career vote-getters.

In the end, this is not a Dem-GOP issue. This is not even a Black-White issue. Rather, it's a class issue. Most of the power and wealth in this country is controlled by a small fraction of the population. This is a perfect time to take the country back from these power-hungry, greedy bastards!

PS--You think psuedo-intellectuals like Moby get a free toaster ovem each time he writes something positive about Democrats and something virulently negative about Republicans?
